Our route:
Singapore > Kunming > Luoping > Kunming > Dali > Lijiang > Kunming
My oh mine! Dali's in a dire state, totally off our expectation. It's undergoing MASSIVE renovation. The whole town is like a war zone & a dead town. *.* It didn't help the sky was grey & it was freaky cold... The whole sight completely dampened our spirits. :( I'll show you the pics in a later post.
We needed a quick perk-me-up! Bakery 88 has received lots of positive reviews & we decided to check it out. Btw, we needed to go through debris, huge potholes & broken pipes, wires & cables to get there... *.*
Thank goodness a warm & cosy little two-storey place greeted us. It did offered some comfort admist the chaos.
Ann needed wine to calm herself! She was the worst hit among us! Lol! :)))
All the three of us needed was hot lemon honey...
Ann ordered a pate to kick start our dinner. :) And it came with walnut bread which Bakery 88 is famous for. We love the different texture of the bread.
Ann ordered for herself an eggplant pasta :)
while Tina, Lin & I had Bolognese. :)
We needed to sort out our Dali plans again. Prior to our departure, Mr. Ang had advised Dali wasn't worth visiting but we did not expect it to be that bad. Anyway at the back of our heads, we had already decided to play by ear.
Our driver Mr. Wang was really nice. He had advised us against staying in this old town, but we insisted on doing so. Hence he chose an inn which was close to us just in case.
Following is a translation of the sms he sent Lin. :)
Mr Wang: Hi, I'm staying in a close by inn. Should you require any assistance, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Lin: Mr Wang, we will check out tomorrow. Let's head to Lijiang after visiting Xi Zhou.
(Happiness Village)
Mr Wang: Sure!
Bakery 88 has gotten positive reviews for its ice cream too! :) We tried vanilla & chocolate & they came with meringues! Sweet. :)
Ann tried their tiramisu. :)
The dinner at Bakery 88 brightened our evening. We headed to a massage parlour a few shops away for a nice foot massage. :) We sure need to count our blessings to still be able to enjoy these little luxuries in such unpleasant condition. :)
This was us, still happy & jolly in the afternoon, on our way to Dali. We were snacking on the eggy cakes we bought earlier in Kunming. :)
