It's time for reunion dinners again! :) Lin and I love reunion dinners. Not only because they are awesome family gatherings, but on this day we get to eat our fav vegetable stew! :) It's the highlight of our reunion dinners. The recipe of this stewed veg has been passed down from my paternal grandmom to her daughters, daughter-in-laws and granddaughter, i.e me. ;) I'm proud mom's stewed veg is the closest to grandmom's as compared to the other aunts. :))) I'm still mastering the skill. ;)
Ingredients (serves 12):
1 radish, sliced (we like to use daikon)
1 carrot, sliced
1 leaf mustard
1 won bok
1 Bejing cabbage
1 bunch of Chinese celery
20 pieces of dried mushrooms (soak them in hot water)
1-2 tablespoons of bean paste (including the liquid)
3 tins of gluten
1 packet of fa cai
1.5 packet of tong feng (vermicilli)
1-2 teaspoon of sugar
1-2 teaspoon of soy sauce
First, seperate the bean paste and liquid. Fry the bean paste till it's fragrant, be careful not to burn the beans. Add the liquid a little at a time as you cook the veg later.
Add the mushrooms. Keep the mushroom water and add it into the veg a little at a time.
Add the radish, carrots and leaf mustards.
Add the won bok and Beijing cabbage.
Add the Chinese celery.
Add the gluten. Then add the soy sauce and sugar.
Lastly, add the fa cai and tong fen. Once all the ingredients are cooked, transfer them into a pot and simmer the veg over low heat. The main dish is done. :) It's fabulous over a bowl of steamed rice. :D
The other 'must haves' for our reunion dinner include cold crab, as well as abalone, scallops & fishball soup. ;)
Fish (年年有鱼). ;)
Steamed prawns (嘻嘻哈哈) :D
And roasted chicken. :)
It's impossible to leave Koka out. :D She's not for consumption. :))) She wanted to be part of the whole preparation process and didn't take her usual afternoon nap. This was her by dinner time. :)))
She fell asleep shortly after the Chinese new year countdown... :)))
On behalf of everyone at home, we wish all friends and loved ones 新年快乐,万事如意! :D
