Limited Dim Sum Repertoire at Luk Yu

Lin & I caught up with Jamie at Luk Yu Teahouse. :) The three of us were looking forward to a dim sum spread, only to realize the selection at Luk Yu was very limited. *.* There isn't our usual fav cheong fun, yam cake and carrot cake etc. Hence if you're looking for a traditional dim sum place, Luk Yu isn't the place. They serve a variety of other Cantonese dishes instead.

Shredded Chicken with Spicy Sauce and Mix Roast Platter

Scallop & Prawn Dumpling and Harkow

Teochew Crystal Dumpling and Foie Gras Crystal Dumpling

Shredded Duck Vermicilli and Century Egg & Lean Pork Congee

Black Sesame Coated Custard Egg Buns

Isn't it wonderful if Luk Yu expand their dim sum menu?

Homemade Bak Kwa :)

The queue at Lee Chee Guan is unbelievably long, and it's ain't lunar new year yet. Solution? Homemade bak kwa. :)))

These bak kwas are not difficult to make. :D

I'm not giving the full recipe here as it needs some fine tuning. *.*

Ingredients:

1kg minced pork
Sugar
Honey
Light soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Hsao Shing wine
Five spice powder
Salt
Pepper

Methods:

Spread the marinated minced pork thinly onto the baking trays and send them to the oven at 160 degree celcius for 20mins.

Remove the bak kwa sheets and let them cool down.

Cut the bak kwa sheets into smaller squares/rectangles and send them back to the oven at 220 degree celcius. Keep a close watch as these bak kwas burn easily. *.*

Verdict: While the texture was right, the bak kwas aren't flavourful enough. We will have to rework the seasonings again... ;)

Straight From the Oven

Who's able to resist freshly baked walnut buns from the oven? I can't!
These gorgeous walnuts buns are from a neighbourhood market stall.
Utterly soft, fluffy & sweet... :)

Trying Out New Dishes at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao

The sudden downpour caused flash floods in some parts of Orchard. It took mom & the both of us a while to get into ION and valet parked our car. And by a while, I meant close to an hour. *.*

Every restaurant was packed. And the obvious solution to beat the crowd was to head to Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao.

We decided to try dishes we never had before. After all nobody says we have to eat xiao long bao in a xiao long bao specialty restaurant. :)

It's a perfect day for Szechuan Boiled Sliced Fishes. Contrary to its spicy appearance, it was manageable on the palate. :) I love the fish slices.

Wontons in Chicken Broth was comforting for the tummies!

Stir-Fried Noodles for some carbo tonite. :)

And finishing our meal off with Lin's fav turnip pastries. :)

Saturday with Ivan

Adelene made us Taiwanese beef noodles for lunch today. :) It was homely & good. Much better than the ones we had on Thurs! :)

And again we were entertained by our godson, the baby clown...

House hunting was boring.

Driving an Alphard was waaaaay more fun! :D

A Slow Friday Nite Please...

I had a sudden crave for Egg White with Crab Meat & Conpoy Fried Rice and had to get it fixed at Imperial Treasure Teochew Restaurant with Pauline. This is my fav fried rice! :)

It was a rainy Friday, making it a perfect nite for soups. :)

Sweet & Sour Soup and Scallops & Seafood Soup

Beancurd atop with Mushrooms & Spinach and Sweet & Sour Pork

As the shops at Ngee Ann City were closed by the time we finished our dinner, we headed to Udders at MyVillage for ice creams!

Pauline had Peanut Butter while we had Chocolate & Mao Shan Wang. :D

It wasn't the most exciting Friday, but after a week of roller coaster moments, this was what we needed most. :)

Thursday Dining Out with Wendy & Tina

Our Thurs' dinner was hot, hot, hot!

Green Curry Laksa with Chicken & Potatoes, Clear Tom Yum Seafood Flat Noodles & Red Tom Yum Seafood Flat Noodles.

Tina gave up on it after a few mouthful... :)))

The Tom Yum Chicken Wings were wiped out though! :D

Drinks & desserts were at Coffee Club.

Muddy Mud Pie - shrink, shrank, STRUNK! *.*

Tina had Strawberry Smoothie, Wendy & I had Ice Chocolate Blend. :D

Lin opted for a seemingly less fattening Strawberry & Lychee Soda! Eh! :)

Unsatisfied Craving...

I've been having craving for Taiwanese braised meat rice 滷肉飯 and beef noodles 牛肉麵 for a while...thanks to a program we watched a few months back.

And so when Mom & I came across this Taiwanese eatery 吃在台北 (Eat at Taipei), we headed in...

Now imagine my excitment when a bowl of braised meat rice 滷肉飯 was placed before me. :) The set meal included Taiwanese sausage and beancurd.

Not exactly pow-wow-wow though...but better than nothing. :)

The Lychee Green Tea (not included in the set lunch) was simply lychee flavoured sugary drink. *.*

Mom & I also shared a bowl of beef noodles 牛肉麵. The broth was rather flavourful and the carrots & daikons were soft & nice. But the beef was tough and the noodles were just instant noodles. How could this be their recommended dish? I've no id.

At the end of the excitement & anticipation, my craving wasn't satisfied...

Hainanese Curry Rice :)

Despite its messy appearance, this plate of Hainanese curry rice is delish. My usual toppings: stewed cabbage, deep fried pork cutlet & sunny side-up.

Oh and not forgetting curry chicken wings & braised pork belly. :D

Sunday lunch was simply satisfying! *.*

Last Day of Christmas

I did it again! I self-invited us for dinner at Wendy and Edwin's new home. :))) I managed to capture the gorgeous sunset from their rooftop garden. :D A pity our housewarming gifts of flowers & tree will only be delivered to them tomorrow. Hence no pic of the pretty plants.

Dinner this evening was hotpot!

Here's the spread. :) We finished all the food! *.*

This was not the end to our indulgence! We had chocolate muffins, coffee & tea for dessert too... :D

More pressies on the last day of Christmas. Sweet. :) Wishing everyone a very blessed Christmas, once more.

A Mushi Celebration? :)

The three of us were busy looking out for Bene Spaghetti along Circular Road til a staff of this Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant shouted Yvonne-san! :) We have no idea where he popped out from but I was amused by the over-zealous waiter.

One will definitely take notice of 4 things here:

1) Ultra warm service staff

2) Frozen towels for guests to beat the Singapore heat

3) A little laid-back, a little quaint & a little quirky decor & finishing

4) Mushi pasta (steamed pasta)

The pasta are served in bell-shaped claypots with varied expressions, a timer (so as to ensure the pasta's done to perfection at 5 mins) and homemade garlic bread which you may request for more.

The claypot cover was immediately removed when the timer started screaming, and beneath it was a plate of pasta and a plate of seafood. The waiter separated the two plates to reveal piping hot sauce, to which the pasta was added into.

Did I mention we were celebrating Yvonne's birthday and the new year? Oh and because it's a Friday! :)

To Yvonne:
Birthdays are gentle reminders of how far we have come and the blessings & love we have received! Cheers to this special day & many more to come! :D
