Shanghai in Shanghai Renjia (上海人家)

Thanks to our dear cousin, Yayi who's coming back to Singapore for a break this week, we couldn't go to Shanghai. Hence when Pauline suggested doing dinner at Shanghai Ren Jia, we jumped on it. :)

We waited 2 hours for a table... *.* Have I waited so long for a table before??? And because we waited so long, our expectations were raised...

The boss strongly recommended we try their stir-fry dou miao (豆苗). It was quite good except a tad oily.

I never thought of mixing yellow chives and eggs. But this simple combination was rather amazing. I'm gonna try to make this dish myself. ;)

Shanghai Renjia received lots of raving reviews on their handmade noodles. And so we ordered one with pork chop & the other with diced chicken to try. We love the texture of the noodles. They were very springy. But the sauce tasted like Indo Mie's... A big minus. : ( We would prefer if they just serve plain with shallot oil.

The interval from the first four items to the next was reaallllly long. *.* We were more fortunate than the others who had yet to savour their first dish! :)))

We have no idea why the Shanghainese drunken chicken took such a long time to be served when it's actually a cold dish. Pauline found the Chinese wine too overwhelming but the rest of us were ok with it. :) It's drunken chicken after all! :D

We waited a long while for the shen jian bao (生煎包) too. Patience is required while dining here. We weren't blown away by these cutesy buns. Thank goodness we didn't listen to Pauline & order two servings. We had dfficulities finishing even one.

I can't remember how long we waited for the xiao long bao (小笼包). These were juicy! :) Shanghai Ren Jia doesn't serve their xiao long baos with vinegar & ginger dip because the boss is confident they are so good they can be eaten on their own.

The boss was very sincere in getting us to try his spring roll. How do you turn down such good gesture. So we tried. Happy. It's probably our fav dish at Shanghai Ren Jia. The fillings is shredded turnip & porky bits. :) Crispy on the outside, gluey & flavourful on the inside. Be very careful when eating this. It's very hot! :)

Unless you have great patience, we wouldn't recommend this place.
