Hefangjie 河坊街

After checking out from Fuchun Resort, we managed to steal some time to stroll Hefangjie before catching the train back to Shanghai. :) Our driver reminded us to be careful with our bags when we sightsee at Hefangjie as it can be very crowded. He said "有好人,也有坏人。" (there are good as well as bad people). Perhaps it was a Wednesday, and the crowd wasn't as bad as anticipated! Yeah! :)

Hefangjie was built to reflect traditional Hangzhou when it was the capital of Southern Song dynasty and it is for pedestrians only.

You will find several traditional trades here such as the tea man who serves tea from a teapot with extremely long spout,

figurine maker who makes whimsical animals models,

silver jewellery maker,

traditional peanut candy maker,

pumpkin lady who craves words on small pumpkins,

medical hall,

cotton shop,

and candy shop. :)

There are also bronze sculptures.

You may have your portraits drawn by street artists too. :)

If you're tired, you may just drop into any teahouse or restaurants. Lin and I opted for Haagen-Dazs. We needed to satisfy our craving for ice cream.

Haagen-Dazs is very economical in China. We were able to have this gorgeous platter for approximately RMB 75 (approx. SGD 15)! Sweet finale to our Hangzhou get-away! ^.*
